Is Qigong safe for everyone?
Qigong is a low impact practice, but like anything, may not be suitable for everyone. You should always consult your doctor before attempting any new exercise routine.
With that said, Qigong is a very low impact practice. You should always practice Qigong with minimal effort, and the movements should never cause pain. If you feel discomfort, it is advisable to not continue the practice and instead focus on relaxing and breathing. If you’re unable to do either, you should seek medical advice.
When should I practice Qigong?
Qigong can be practiced anytime, however, there are specific times when you should not practice:
- When you are in the middle of a cold or flu, or other more serious illnesses such as bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.
- You should not practice right after eating – wait for your body to digest the food, approximately 1 hour after eating.
- You should not practice right after drinking liquids – again wait for the fluids to move through your system, approximately 20 minutes.
- You should not practice after using alcohol or hard drugs, as unintended results could occur.
